Shows, Free Time, and “Avatar: The Last Airbender”

By Ryan Hisle

Hello readers, I’m coming to you guys to try and get you to think about things you actually like to do like during your free time. Nothing to do with work or school or whatever is draining your time or energy.

One way I spend free time is by watching a show, whether it’s a classic favorite of mine or something new I’ve heard good things about or maybe even something I’ve found just lookin around on Netflix or HBO. Now, one I’ve re-watched recently is a freaking childhood classic of mine! Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Oh my god I love this show so much, like many other people I know. If you haven’t seen this show, it is well worth your time! Regardless of its target audience being children around the age of 10+, it represents a timeless tale of adventure, struggles, and so much more. I even know adults that watched it for their first time in their upper 30’s, and love the show just as much! The characters are fantastically written, represented, and act realistically in accordance.

You’ve got Aang, the main character, who is comically silly and goofy. Katara is the honest, caring character. Sokka is a sarcastic, yet head-on kind of guy. And so many more, these are just the first three you get to meet, and if I said anything else it would be coming up on spoiler territory, and everybody hates spoilers and the ones who are responsible for them.

Watching this show when I as younger, the most common thing I would do is throw in the disc with my favorite episodes and fall asleep to them. I’d wake up in the morning to get ready for school, and hear the main menu music playing in loop. I’d also make a habit of watching the show during winter, I don’t know why, but the comfort of the cold while underneath warm blankets always made me want to revisit this amazing show.

If you guys have been watching anything else that is awesome or you really enjoy, feel free to reach out to me at our twitter or Instagram page! With all the chaos in the world right now, every one of us could use something to wrap our minds around besides the pandemonium. And if you haven’t already, go start Avatar! What are you waiting for?
